Thursday's detentions are in relation to previous arrests carried out on Tuesday in the same coastal town of Ondarroa.
On Thursday, Basque police agents carried out "new arrests" in relation to ETA, once again in the Biscay town of Ondarroa where detentions were also made on Tuesday as part of a similar operation against the armed Basque group. On that occasion, a total of five suspects from three locations in Biscay and Guipuzcoa were escorted away by police.
Sources in the Home Office refused to confirm the exact number of Thursday''s detentions, or the identities of those arrested, although certain informants from within the police have suggested two people were taken away.
On Tuesday 26th January, the Basque Autonomous Police Force detained five suspected members of the armed group ETA, who they accuse of taking part in a car-bomb attack on an autonomous police station in Ondarroa in September 2008, as well as further attacks in Azpeitia and on works being carried out on the new high-speed railway.
