Kitchen fire causes damage in Basque restaurant Mugaritz

A short-circuit caused fire to break out in the restaurant run by prestigious chef Andoni Luis Aduriz, considered one of the world's best.

A fire has caused considerable damage in kitchen of the Basque restaurant Mugaritz, one of the world''s most prestigious eateries run by chef Andoni Luis Aduriz.

Fire broke out at around 2am owing to a short-circuit in the area of the kitchen.

The fire which broke out in the two Michelin starred-restaurant, located in the Gipuzkoan town of Errenteria, meant the inhabitants of an adjoining farmhouse had to be evacuated.

Firefighters needed a total of five sets of equipment to fight the blaze, which took two hours to completely put out. Flames principally affected the kitchen area.

Andoni Luis Aduriz is one of the Basque Country''s most internationally-acclaimed chefs and his restaurant is always listed among the best in the world.
