Unemployment continues to fall in the Basque Country

The number of people out of work in Spain has fallen from 4 million to around 3,982,368. In the Basque Country and Navarre figures have dropped 126,365 and 40,917 respectively.

The level of unemployment recorded by the Public Employment Services in Spain fell in June for a third month in a row. 83,834 less people were registered out of work in June compared to the previous month, taking the total to 3,982,368, a drop of -2.06%.

According to data released by the Ministry of Work and Immigration published on Friday, annual figures show that unemployment has increased by 417,479, a rise of 11.71%.

Unemployment in June rose by 915 among first time job-seekers, and by 174 in agriculture; a drop of 15,402 was registered in Industry, 21,253 in the Construction sector and most notably in the service industry, where a&' || 'nbsp;48,268 was recorded.

The General Secretary for Employment, Maravillas Rojo, described the drop as positive and stressed that the latest figures signified the biggest monthly fall in unemployment in the past five years, and the best June since 1997.

In the Basque Country, unemployment fell by 3,283 in respect of the previous month, putting the figure at 126,365. The drop signifies a monthly reduction of 2.53%.

Overall figures, meanwhile, reveal that unemployment in Euskadi rose by 10,267 as compared to June 2009, an annual rise of 8.84%.

In Navarre, the Ministry of Employment announced a drop of 1.87% in unemployment. The number of people out of work fell by 779, putting the current figure at 40,917.
