Minnesota woman says her tapas order was misunderstood for a plate of Spanish jamon when instead she had ordered only a sandwich
The mayor of Bilbao, Inaki Azkuna, has offered to reimburse 8 euros to a tourist from Minnesota who said she had been overcharged after her tapas order was misunderstood for a plate of Spanish jamon when instead she had only asked for a jamon sandwich.
The tourist wrote a letter to Azkuna explaining the incident, and included a copy of the bill. Azkuna wrote back and offered to pay the bill.
“She wrote to me saying she was overcharged eight euros and that this was outrageous,” Azkuna said in a radio interview, who added he even went to the bar to hear their side of the story.
“This woman went all the way to write to the mayor. This is no small thing. We need to treat well everybody in the world who comes to Bilbao.”
Some 750,000 tourists visit Bilbao every year.
