The film by Gorka Bilbao and Nacho Reig, that attempts to portray "the last refuge" of the Basque community in western American will not be finished in time for Zinemaldia.

A documentary based on the lives and struggles of the first Basque communities which formed in the western states of America is to show at Zinemaldia on September 18th.

Amerikanuak, filmed entirely in Basque, uses first hand accounts from Basques who travelled to the US in search of employment and a way to make money, most with the intention of returning home.

The film looks at themes of adaptation, rootlessness, nostalgia and community. It was scheduled to feature as part of this year''s Basque Film Showcase, but it has since been confirmed that it will not be finished in time.

As a result, certain authorised attendees will have the opportunity to see an exclusive viewing of Amerikanuak as a work in progress.
