Elhuyar, a private non-profit organization dedicated to the popularisation of science and the Basque language, has launched an English-Basque dictionary for iPhones and Android mobile phones.

The application, which costs 8.99 euros at the iTunes store, aims to fill an existing gap in the field of dictionaries for Basque speakers who want to learn English.

The dictionary comprises 34,000 words, 50,000 expressions and 12,000 examples, as well as the names of well-known locations, cities and towns.

Other applications published by Elhuyar include a Spanish-English dictionary, a French-Basque dictionary and a thesaurus (dictionary of synomyms).
